Cyprus Study Visa for Spring and Fall 2027: Entry Permit, Documents and New Work Rules Every Indian Student Must Know
Cyprus is an EU member state with English-taught programs, affordable tuition and a relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle, which is why more Indian students are now shortlisting it. But the Cyprus study visa works differently from most countries: your university applies for your entry permit on your behalf, and you must wait in India until it is issued.
If you are aiming for the Spring (February) 2027 or Fall (September) 2027 intake in the Republic of Cyprus, this guide walks you through the process, documents, new work rules and the questions students ask us most.
Spring 2027 is close, and Fall 2027 applications are open now. Book your free profile check with TIIC Overseas.
Republic of Cyprus vs North Cyprus: Know the Difference
The island has two separate systems. The Republic of Cyprus is the EU member state, and its student permits are issued by the Civil Registry and Migration Department (CRMD). Universities in the north operate under a different, non-EU system, with different recognition and visa rules.
This guide covers the Republic of Cyprus only. Before you pay any deposit, confirm where your university is located, whether it is accredited, and who issues your permit.

How the Cyprus Study Visa Works: Blue Slip and Pink Slip
Before you travel: Entry Permit (“blue slip”)
Your university submits your file to the CRMD. Once approved, the CRMD issues an entry permit that allows you to travel to Cyprus for study. You stay in India while this is processed.
After you arrive: Temporary Residence Permit (“pink slip”)
After arrival, you complete local medical tests, open a Cypriot bank account, arrange health insurance and apply for your temporary residence permit within the time your university specifies. This permit is renewed every year until your studies end.

Step-by-Step Cyprus Study Visa Process
- Choose an accredited university or college in the Republic of Cyprus.
- Apply and receive your offer letter.
- Pay the tuition deposit. The CRMD will not process your file without proof of payment. Deposit amounts and refund terms vary by institution, so read your offer letter carefully.
- Get your documents attested. Indian documents generally need an apostille, plus official English translations where needed.
- Courier your documents to the university. Many institutions need originals or certified copies, not scans.
- Your university submits your entry permit application to the CRMD.
- Wait in India while the application is processed, and allow plenty of time.
- Receive your entry permit, book travel, and complete your arrival steps for the residence permit.

How to Avoid Delays and Refusals
- Check accreditation first. Choose an institution and program recognised in the Republic of Cyprus.
- Show clear, genuine funds. Bank statements should be consistent, and any large recent deposits should be explained.
- Get every document apostilled or attested before it is couriered. Missing attestation is a common reason files are returned.
- Keep your story consistent. Your academic background, chosen course and career plans should make sense together.
- Apply early. Peak-season files take longer, and a late file can mean a missed intake.

Work Rights and Life After Graduation
A revised government decree now sets out where students from outside the EU may work in Cyprus. In general:
- You can work only after completing your first semester, while enrolled in the next one.
- You must hold a valid residence permit and a work contract with an eligible employer, certified by the Department of Labour.
- Work is limited to specific sectors and occupations listed in the decree, such as trade, hospitality, agriculture and selected ICT roles.
- Weekly hours are capped during classes, with a higher limit during vacations.
Cyprus does not have an automatic post-study work visa like Canada. Working after graduation generally needs a separate permit through an employer, so plan your study budget without relying on part-time income.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Who applies for my Cyprus student visa?
In most cases, your university submits your entry permit application to the Civil Registry and Migration Department (CRMD) after you accept your offer and pay the deposit.
Q2. What is the difference between the blue slip and the pink slip?
The blue slip is the entry permit that lets you travel to Cyprus. The pink slip is the temporary residence permit you apply for after arrival, which is renewed every year of your studies.
Q3. How long does a Cyprus study visa take?
It can take anywhere from several weeks to a few months, depending on the institution and the season. Start early and do not book flights until your entry permit is issued.
Q4. Is it too late for the Spring 2027 intake?
Not if you act now, though some institutions may already be closing applications. Because processing can take months, start your file immediately, or consider Fall 2027 as a safer target.
Q5. When should I start for the Fall 2027 intake?
Start now with shortlisting, English tests and financial documents, so your university can submit your entry permit file in spring or early summer.
Q6. Do I need IELTS for Cyprus?
Most institutions ask for IELTS or an equivalent English test. Some accept alternatives or their own assessment, so check each program’s requirements.
Q7. How much money do I need to show?
You must show enough funds to cover tuition and living costs without relying on public support. Requirements vary by institution, and after arrival you also need to show funds in a Cypriot bank account. Always check the current requirement with your university.
Q8. Do my Indian documents need an apostille?
Generally, yes. Indian documents usually need an apostille, and anything not in English needs an official translation. Documents without proper attestation can lead to delays or rejection.
Q9. What medical tests are required?
Students usually need screening for certain infectious diseases and a chest X-ray. Some universities ask for reports from India before travel, and tests are also done in Cyprus for the residence permit.
Q10. Can I work while studying in Cyprus?
Yes, but only after your first semester, with a valid residence permit and a certified contract, in approved sectors and within the weekly hour limits.
Q11. Is there a post-study work visa in Cyprus?
There is no automatic post-study work route like Canada’s. To work after graduation, you generally need a job offer and a separate work permit through your employer.
Q12. Can I bring my spouse or children?
Generally, students cannot bring a spouse or children as dependants on a Cyprus student permit. Confirm the current rules with your university before you plan.
Q13. Can I travel to Europe with my Cyprus residence permit?
Cyprus is in the EU but not yet a full Schengen member, so your Cyprus residence permit does not on its own allow travel across the Schengen area. You will usually need a separate Schengen visa for now. Cyprus is working towards full membership, so check the latest rules before you travel.
Q14. Can I travel home to India during my studies?
Yes, but keep your residence permit valid and inform your university’s international office. Staying outside Cyprus for an extended period can lead to your permit being cancelled.
Q15. Why do Cyprus study visas get refused?
Common reasons include unaccredited institutions, missing apostilles, weak or unexplained funds and inconsistent documents. Reapplying with the same file usually gives the same result, so strengthen it first.
Q16. Can I change my university or course in Cyprus?
It is possible, but you need a new acceptance letter and must update your residence permit with the authorities. Speak to your international office before making any change.
